Curtis and I went to Denmark for our 25th anniversary. Curtis served his mission there in 1983-84 and he has always wanted to go back. So with his many miles and Marriott points we were able to spend a week there this last summer. Denmark reminded me of the northwest. And like Seattle it rained quite a few days that we were there. There are statues like this one EVERYWHERE in Denmark.
We walked to the kirke or church that Curtis attended at the beginning of
his mission. It had changed very little. We also found a beautiful
kirkegaard or cemetery along the way.

Next, we stopped at Legoland. Yes, Denmark is where legos were invented. They had hundreds of creations made from legos including life size animals, many famous monuments and small replicas of cities from all around the world.
Since Denmark is made up of many islands there was water everywhere.
We visited a large Viking graveyard that Curtis had also visited while on his mission.
We met up with his friend Knud and ate dinner with him and his son. Knud spoke English, so even I could contribute to the conversation. The next day, we attended the very same church in which Curtis converted and baptized Knud. Even though Knud was not there, the people knew him still and were very friendly with us. Curtis enjoyed talking and visiting with them. I enjoyed listening and singing the hymns. I realized that the Spirit feels the same even when you sing in danish.
Next, we visited an old town with original buildings and saw how
it was to live in Denmark hundreds of years ago.
Denmark still has a royal family, so we saw the changing of the guard.
We also toured several cathedrals including Our Lady's Church
where the original Christus Statue is on display. There was a very
reverent Spirit there. The 12 apostles were represented all along the
outside walls in life size statues.

We spent hours at Thorvaldsens Museum enjoying his many statues
and learning about the artist that created the Christus.
The museum was my favorite part of the whole trip!

Much of his work has been brought from Denmark and is currently on display at BYU's Art Museum. http://carlbloch.byu.edu/
The highlight of the trip was going to the Copenhagen temple. Curtis had attended this building as a Stake Center for regular meetings while on his mission. In 2004, it was remodeled to be an LDS temple. We were able to attend a session before we left the country. Once again the Spirit was very strong and we had a wonderful time. What a memorable trip!
